In 2021, Dr. Arjun Krishnamurthy performed Kerala's first percutaneous tricuspid valve repair using the MitraClip edge-to-edge technique — a procedure most cardiologists in the state had only read about in journals. It was, in a sense, a natural extension of a fifteen-year practice at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi built specifically around the cases other centres decline: complex, high-risk coronary interventions and structural heart disease that demand both technical precision and a tolerance for consequential decisions made under pressure.

He completed his MBBS at JIPMER Puducherry, where he won the gold medal in General Medicine, before returning to the same institution for his MD and proceeding to AIIMS New Delhi for his DM in Cardiology. Promoted to Senior Consultant and Associate Professor in 2018, he now holds a dual role — clinician and educator — reflected in catheterisation laboratory volumes of over 4,200 procedures across fifteen years, among the highest for a complex-PCI interventionist in Kerala.
His research output — eighteen peer-reviewed publications and an ICMR-funded grant as principal investigator — is anchored by a 2019 paper on rotational atherectomy in calcified coronary disease among South Asian patients, now cited in fourteen subsequent studies. The Kerala Medical Council recognised his clinical work with its 2023 Award for Excellence in Interventional Cardiology.
